Day 1: Arrive in New Orleans
Arrive into New Orleans and make your way to the Maison Dupuy, a unique hotel set inside the city’s historic Vieux Carré district within the French Quarter, just two blocks from the heart of Bourbon Street. Often referred to as the “most unique” city in America, New Orleans is known worldwide for its multicultural heritage, stunning cuisine, beautiful architecture and it’s fabulous music.

Day 2: Baton Rouge (81 miles)
After a morning of exploration, pick up your car and leave New Orleans behind for a taste of southern antebellum splendour. Stop at Houmas House and Longwood Plantation’s on the way to Baton Rouge where you will stay the night at the historic Nottoway Plantation. Enjoy the unforgettable grandeur and gracious hospitality offered by this unique experience and end the day with some classic Creole-inspired Louisiana cuisine at The Mansion Restaurant.

Let your own ‘local expert’ unravel the mysteries of America’s oldest and most unique living neighbourhood! Follow in the footsteps of historic figures as you stroll along the Mighty Mississippi, through the French Market and Jackson Square, and down the banquettes (sidewalks) of quaint streets named for saints and sinners from our European past. See the old Quarter come to life as your guide explains its secrets and helps you understand all it has to offer - architecture, courtyards, food, music, art and gardens. You’ll discover love potion and gris-gris potions at the intriguing and unusual Pharmacy Museum.
Day 3: Natchez (92 miles)
Spend the morning getting to know more about this historic antebellum mansion with its wonderful collection of period furnishings and pristinely manicured grounds before hitting the road again. Between Baton Rouge and Natchez you’ll come across the charming town of St. Francisville, stop here to explore the historic district and experience a taste of southern hospitality at its best. At the end of the day, soak up the breathtaking views as you drive into the city of Natchez, perched on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River.

Day 4: Vicksburg (73 miles)
Start the day in a relaxed fashion with a full breakfast and a tour of the historic Monmouth Plantation. When you feel ready to leave the plantation behind, jump in the car and head for Vicksburg. Keep an eye open when you get into the town, if you follow the markers of the “Mississippi Blues Trail”, you will come away with a new appreciation for the area that gave birth to the Blues. Your final stop today is the Cedar Grove Inn; you will be spending the night at one of the largest and most elegant bed and breakfasts in the South.

Day 5: Natchitoches (170 miles)
Wake up to a home-style country breakfast followed by a tour of this unique historical mansion. Tour all five historic buildings containing elegantly decorated rooms with period furnishings set on five acres of gardens. After the tour you may want to enjoy lunch and depart to Natchitoches for a stay at Jefferson House located on beautiful Cane River Lake in the Natchitoches historic district. From here it is easy to set out on foot to experience Cajun history in the numerous Creole Plantations that abound this area. You may also want to visit Alligator Park which offers visitors a glimpse at an authentic Cajun countryside, complete with Cajun music, genuine Cajun cuisine, and plenty of gators.

Day 6: Raceland (253 miles)
Today, after a delicious breakfast, depart Natchitoches and make a stopover in Alexandria, known as the heart of Louisiana. Here, historic plantation homes offer an authentic look at plantation life, and cultural art museums and galleries are a must-see. Continue your journey to Lafayette. Located in the heart of Louisiana’s Cajun & Creole Country, Lafayette offers excellent cuisine, music, festivals, history, culture, shopping, architecture, arts, outdoors, and wildlife. You may choose to spend some time here before continuing on to Raceland for your
overnight stay at the Chateau on the Bayou Bed & Breakfast. Ready for relaxation? Your B&B is located on the banks of Bayou Lafourche, so grab a rocking chair or a hammock and enjoy the natural surroundings and the bayou that gently flows. If you are up for some more exploring, you are just minutes away from airboat and swamp tours, and plantation homes.

OPTIONAL EXPERIENCE - Atchafalaya Experience Boat Tour
Louisiana’s Atchafalaya is North America’s largest river swamp and ranks among the top 10 wilderness areas in the United States. On any given day one can expect to encounter beaver, nutria, otters, mink, deer, squirrels, and other mammals, as well as up to 38 species of birds, including some which are endangered. And of course, alligators.
Day 7: Depart New Orleans (45 miles)
Jump in the car for your final journey back to New Orleans, here the adventure ends. You can choose to add some extra time in here and explore more of this fabulous city, or if this is the end of the adventure, return your car at the airport and catch your flight back home.
